David McDevitt is an American classical pianist from California. David's musical journey is different from many of his peers in that he started to play piano only in his 20s with no previous musical experience or training. His interest in piano began when he heard a CD of piano works of Mexican composers that reminded him of the music his Father and Grandfather played in their conjuntos when he was a child. David then went on to study piano first at his local community college then at James Madison University where he completed his bachelors and masters degree under the guidance of Dr. Paulo Steinberg. David also had the opportunity to study collaborative piano with Dr. Gabriel Dobner and solo piano with Dr. Lori Piitz while completing his studies.
David's interest in Latin American music has lead to several engagements. He performed as part of a diversity grant in conjunction with the Latin American studies department while in his undergraduate study at JMU. David also performed several times throughout the harrisonburg Virginia community in immersion based programs for elementary schools and immigration based events highlighting classical works from Latin America. David has most recently completed the graduate certificate in injury preventative piano technique at Salem college under Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink and has incorporated this into his private piano studio.
