Laura Umbelino

Laura Umbelino is a Brazilian classical pianist and pedagogue. She graduated with a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), a Master of Music degree in piano performance and a Bachelor of Music degree from Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG). Umbelino has studied under the guidance of Dr. Mauricy Martin, Dr. Glacy Antunes de Oliveira, Dr. Gyovana Carneiro, Dr. Robervaldo Linhares, Ana Claudia Belo and Ericka Vilela.

Dr. Umbelino received 13 prizes in piano competitions, including: “Honorina Barra” International Piano Competition (1999); “Souza Lima” National Piano Competition (1999 and 2015); “City of Araçatuba” National Competition (2000); “ArtLivre” National Piano Competition (2000 and 2004).

She was selected to participate as scholarship pianist of important festivals, including: 1st Meeting of Pianists in Paraty (2008); 8th Music Festival of Santa Catarina and Ricardo Castro’s Piano Academy (2016). Her academic interests include research on piano works of renowned Brazilian composer Ronaldo Miranda.

Dr. Umbelino performs widely as soloist and has appeared throughout Brazil, USA, Spain, Italy and Austria, including performances at Weill Hall in Carnegie Hall, Alicia de Larrocha Hall in L'Auditori, Palazzo Pamphil, Fronhburg Palace and Schönbrunn Palace. In July 2013, in North Africa, she played at the "International Festival of Hammamet" and at the "28th International Festival of Symphonic Music of El Jem" by invitation from the Tunisian Government.

She maintains an active schedule as an educator, having taught courses at Ericka Vilela Piano Studio (Goiânia/Brazil) between 2010 and 2015, preparing children and teenagers who won prizes at the Souza Lima National Competition in 2013 and 2014 and performances abroad. In the year of 2016, during her doctorate, she assumed the piano studio of Dr. Mauricy Martin, replacing him in his sabbatical leave.

Recent guest soloist performances include the debut of Rubens Lintz’s Brazilian Concerto in F minor for Piano and Orchestra; Ronaldo Miranda’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with Orquestra Sinfônica Jovem de Goiás and Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal de Campinas. She has worked with conductors such as Tiago Roscani, Thiago Santos and Evandro Matté.
