True Unity Classical Concert Series

True Unity Classical Concert Series provides the community a more personable musical experience. For the 2019 season, we have a large group of amazing artists scheduled to perform. Our line-up includes a wide variety of instruments and musical selections, a Grammy award-winning artist, and the world premiere of new works.

March 30 at 6pm: The Soldier's Tale
Project 88 opens its second season with a performance of Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale. Celebrating the 100th year of its premiere, as well as the centennial of World War I, this work tells the story of a soldier who naively exchanges his soul for a magic book of fortune. After suffering from the results of his choice, the soldier engages in an ongoing battle with the Devil for control over his own life.

April 27 at 6pm: Music is a Many-Splendored Thing: Color, Gesture, and Song

Returning guest artist Esther Nyberg performs solo piano works by Mozart and Liszt. Nyberg is then joined by baritone John Mathieu and mezzo-soprano Emma Ritter for a performance of various songs by German composers. Featuring works by Mozart, Liszt, Marx, Pfitzner, Schubert, Berg, Schumann, and Schoeck

May 18 at 6pm
Violist Nikita Haas and pianist Stefani Babic will perform works by Glinka, Kryukov, and Brahms.

June 15 at 6pm
Soprano Michelle Areyzaga is joined by pianist Dana Brown to perform a full recital of pieces by a wide variety of composers. This is the final spring concert in Project 88's True Unity concert series. Featuring works by Walker, Pearson Thomas, Hoiby, Rogers, Duke, Lippé, and Bernstein.

September 7 at 6pm: Music of Ronaldo Miranda for solo piano and piano 4 hands
Brazilian pianist Laura Umbelino will perform works by Brazilian composer Ronaldo Miranda in the first fall concert of Project 88's True Unity Concert Series. Umbelino will then be joined by Artistic Director Élider DiPaula to perform a selection of Miranda's works for piano 4 hands.

September 28 at 6pm: 60th Celebration of the life of Heitor Villa-Lobos
Project 88 Artistic Director Élider DiPaula performs works by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the composer's death. Enjoy the sounds of Brazil through Villa-Lobos' works.

October 19 at 6pm: Heine Lieder
Baritone Kevin McMillan and pianist Gabriel Dobner perform a full recital of works by German composer Robert Schumann.
Featuring songs by Schumann based on poems of Heinrich Heine.

November 9 at 6pm
The second season of Project 88's True Unity Concert Series concludes with this performance of two incredible piano quintets. Violinists Stefan Hersh and Agnieszka Likos, violist Sixto Franco, cellist Patrycja Likos, and pianist Élider DiPaula perform piano quintets by Cesar Franck and Dmitri Shoshtakovich.
